MINI UK have rebuked recent claims that a limited edition “Rolls Royce” MINI will be put into production despite rumours of the car gathering pace among the online MINI community.
A spokesman for MINI confirmed that the Rolls Royce MINI had been produced for a recent dealer event, but said that there was indeed “no current plans” for this car to be released, continuing that
MINI is known for successfully marketing special edition models. But for every 100 that are proposed, 99 don’t make the final cut.
The photograph shown here [removed by request] is one of a batch which recently appeared on the totalMINI forum, showing both the interior and exterior of the MINI, apparently during its preparation stage. The vehicle has been painted in an exclusive blue finish, and the interior is trimmed with walnut and leather, as well as unique dials and instrument fascias.
While MINIs media relations team are in the mood for denials, Citroen’s couldn’t be more open about how their forthcoming DS3 model is gunning for a slice of the MINIs market. In an interview published in Auto Express DS design chief Mark Lloyd claimed he placed the MINI and DS3 “back-to-back” on key selling points, and at the same time saying that the
MINI relies very much on heritage; the DS3 is 100 per cent modern
Citroen will apparently offer “a million option combinations” for the DS3 including, wait for it, contrasting roof colours. They plan to rival the MINI for ride, handling, and quality and undercut their prices by quite a chunk too.
Changing the subject somewhat. If you’ve had enough of the ghastly hot weather that has recently so rudely interrupted our usual summer rain in here Britain, then you might want to hide inside and drive yourself mad with this MINI 50th birthday game that comes courtesy of online motoring publication iMotor.
