The number of new MINIs registered in the UK during November 2009 reached an impressive tally of 3,097. This put MINI in the top ten for the month of November, and keeps MINI at an impressive 8th spot for new car registrations for the year to date.
According to figures released by the SMMT, November 2009 UK car sales were up 57.6% on the same month last year, but MINIs gains were even more impressive, up an astounding 79.74% on November 2008’s figures of 1,723 cars sold.
While the UK Government’s vehicle scrappage scheme has been gaining plaudits for helping to significantly boost car sales, for MINI this doesn’t appear to be a key factor at all.
For the year to date MINI has sold just over 4,000 vehicles under the scheme, but the numbers have been tailing off dramatically. During November, only 300 new MINIs were sold under the Government backed initiative. That’s less than half October’s figure, and way below September’s 1,595 vehicles sold.
While November’s figures are mightily impressive in isolation, MINI still has some way to go to meet 2008’s sales. Figures are down about 6.3% at 36,007 new MINIs sold, but market share has increased by 0.05% year on year.
