On the morning of the first day of the MINI United festival we thought we’d bring you a couple of interesting photographs that show how MINI and the world of Formula 1 are coming together to mark the 50th anniversary of a motoring icon, and a motor racing milestone.
In 1959, the Cooper Car Company won its first Formula 1 Constructors Championship, and John Cooper’s mid engined, rear wheeled drive cars helped revolutionise the sport. To celebrate the anniversary of this achievement, and all that John Cooper brought to the world of MINI and motor racing, MINI will be unveiling a very limited edition MINI JCW F1 car this weekend. We’ve been talking about this car since the early April and finally, thanks to the official MINI United bloggers, we can show you a (very) sneak peak of what’s to be unveiled to the MINI loving public this weekend at MINI United.
Meanwhile, at the famous Monaco GP circuit, the BMW Sauber team are paying tribute to the MINI by carrying a special message on their F1.09 race cars. The engine cover of both cars is branded with “Happy Birthday MINI” and the rear wing bears the message “MINI turns 50″.
Let’s hope that along with their regards the team can send some of that Monaco sunshine to Silverstone for the MINI United festival this weekend!
