Back in January 2001 I was working on a new MINI website called MINI2. One of the first articles I reported on was from UK rumour mongers extraordinaire, Auto Express.
Apparently, so said the piece, BMW had encouraged stylists on the new MINI project to “let their pens run wild”. The results of these flights of fancy were reportedly “so exciting they’ll be considered for production.”
The main focus was on the possible relaunch of the MINI Moke, complete with computer generated imagery of said reinvention.
Later that same month Auto Express also reported on MINIs debut at Detroit. Apparently receiving a very tepid reception indeed.
It seems strange that now, almost 9 years later, the MINI is a smash hit in the USA and the MINI Moke Concept, based on the R60 MINI Crossover/Countryman could be making its World Premier next month at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show.
Details of the forthcoming MINI Moke Concept remain enticingly vague at this stage, but sources say all could be revealed within a matter of weeks, so watch this space.
