What do you before meeting the press and public for the first time at a German motorshow, when you know you’re going to be a big attraction? You head off for some California sun, at least, that’s what a few examples of the forthcoming MINI crossover have done.
There are a huge selection of images being carried in many of the main online and print motoring journals, not least of all AutoBlog who seem to have the widest collection at the highest resolution.
Thanks to the rather garish swirly body wrap BMW seems to favour recently on test mules, the photographs don’t really show that much more than anything an avid MINI watcher would have seen before. However, one clear shot with the tailgate open upwards confirms what most had already assumed, the new bigger MINI has a traditional “hatch” rear door.
Official details and photographs of the new MINI crossover are expected soon, ahead of a full public debut at the Frankfurt IAA later this year. We can’t wait!
As a footnote on the subject of MINIs overseas adventures, several recent reports are claiming that parent company BMW are reconsidering previous plans to launch the MINI brand in India. Apparently they’re not sure the car can carve its own unique niche in the Indian car market at this time.
