MINI breaks into UK sales top ten

For the first time in 2009 MINI has entered the UK top ten for cars sold in the year to date, according to figures released by the SMMT.

MINI sold 17,422 cars in the UK to the end of June 2009. This figure represents a fall of almost 28 percent compared like for like with MINI sales figures for 2008. Market share has however remained steady at 1.88% of UK car sales so far in 2009, compared with 1.94% for the same period of 2008.

For the month of June 2009 MINI had a UK market share of 2.65% with 4,665 vehicles sold. This figure compares favourably to June 2008 when market share stood at 2.53%, although 625 more MINIs were sold in June 2008 than the same month of 2009.

The figures show that while sales are still suffering along with the rest of the industry, MINI is certainly holding its own in difficult times. The MINI leapfrogged the Golf to become the sixth best selling car of the month, and for the first time made an appearance in the year-to-date sales top ten, knocking it’s bigger cousin, the BMW 3 Series, off of the charts.
